TOOLS NEEDED: Espresso machine, milk frother or a whisk, a glass and Saucepan (if making the caramel sauce).

Another classic in the world of lattes is the caramel latte. Almost every coffee shop has one on its menu, and for good reason.

The caramel latte is as easy to make as finding caramel sauce or syrup and adding it to a latte! Many shops even make their own caramel syrup for that extra boost of flavor.

For this recipe, we recommend looking for a premium caramel sauce or making your own for the highest quality and freshest taste possible!

  • 2 ounces espresso
  • 10 ounces milk
  • 2 tablespoons homemade caramel sauce (see ingredient tip) or store-bought caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

  • Pour the espresso into a mug
  • Place the milk in a wide glass or glass jar and microwave on high power for 30 seconds until it is very hot but not boiling. Alternatively, heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat for about 5 minutes until very hot but not boiling, watching it carefully
  • Add the caramel sauce and sugar (if using) to the hot milk and stir until they dissolve
  • Using a milk frother, froth the milk until you don’t see any bubbles and you have a thick froth, 20 to 30 seconds. Swirl the glass and lightly tap it on the counter repeatedly to pop the larger bubbles. Repeat this step as needed
  • Using a spoon to hold back the foam, pour the milk into the espresso. Spoon the remaining foam on top
  • Drizzle the top with more caramel sauce

Ingredient Tip

Make your own caramel sauce! It’s less expensive and easy to do. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, cook 1 cup sugar, whisking constantly, for about 10 minutes until it melts. Add 6 tablespoons salted butter and whisk until melted and combined. Pour in ½ cup heavy (whipping) cream while whisking. Let cool for about 15 minutes before using.

Recipe Tip

To make this a salted caramel latte, add a pinch of salt when stirring in the caramel and sugar and top off with an additional pinch of salt over the caramel drizzle to finish.
